Oops! She did it again! Britney Spears is pregnant and, obviously, we are going to #TrendingTuesday about it.
While some of you may have been following the #FreeBritney movement from day one, let’s provide a quick refresher about the popstar’s 13-year-long conservatorship that was recently terminated by Judge Brenda Penny, November 12, 2021.
Under U.S. law, a conservatorship is a legal way to limit or control someone’s ability to make certain choices or decisions. According to WebMD, a probate court can name a person to manage those decisions (the “conservator”) for someone who is unable to do it for themselves.
In theory, a conservatorship is supposed to work like a guardianship for the financial and personal affairs of a minor or someone who has been deemed incapacitated, or mentally unsound.
Brittney Spears’ conservator was her father for the majority of her experience and the conservatorship was split into two parts—conservatorship of her estate, which controlled all her income and financial decisions, and the conservatorship of her person, which had control over her well-being and health, according to NPR.
Since the termination of her conservatorship in 2021, Britney has been far from quiet.
Her Instagram account attracts a lot of attention—sporting bikini photos, erotic dancing videos, opinions about her life and family, and now, well…her pregnancy announcement.
Spears has two children with her ex-husband, Kevin Federline, and they are both in their teens. Sean Preston Federline and Jayden James Federline. She has opened up about them a few times in her posts, but it is unclear how often then see each other, or how close they are.
Her March 13 post with her new Australian Shepherd puppy, she wrote:
My baby is getting bigger [about the dog] … I will just say it just like when my boys got bigger… IT LITERALLY SUCKS. They don’t need me anymore… I’ve cried oceans for my boys and I’m not lying!!
In another post, she explains she does not want to post pictures of her son’s that might deter them from finding their own identity. So, we do not know a whole lot about what her sons are currently up to.
Okay, so the current pregnancy:
There have been suspicions by Spears’ fans that she was showing signs of a baby bump. She confirmed yesterday, April 11, that the suspicions were true and she is expecting a baby with Sam Asghari—her actor significant other who was formerly a backup dancer for Spears, according to celebrity.nine.
Spears and Asghari have confirmed they are engaged in Instagram posts, but they often refer to each other as husband and wife—leading followers to believe they may have secretly gotten married in private.
Here is what I feel strongly, no other website is going to touch on and that is the fact that Britney’s posts are a little “out of the norm.” Am I saying she deserves a conservatorship? Hell no. But I do think it would have been interesting for the judge to approve a psychological analysis, which, she did not. Spears conservatorship termination was effective immediately.
For those of us who grew up listening and signing along to Britney Spears, dancing to ‘Toxic’ on Just Dance, reading the tabloids as she shaved her head and followed the #FreeBritney movement from start to finish—she sure has a way of making you wonder!
I, personally, would love to watch Britney on a talk show with someone who can navigate the conversation well enough to ask her the questions that a lot of us are wondering—is she okay? How is her mental health? What did life inside the conservatorship look like? And, are you prepared to raise another child?
Of course, this is my speculation and we are all entitled to our own opinions so long as we keep it respectful! Let me know what you think in the comments below and happy #TrendingTuesday!
