The conversation about ‘when did you actually feel your age,’ continues this evening as we ponder the way that our bodies change as we get older.

To be entirely honest, I have never been “lucky” when it comes to my overall health and immune system. From a young age, I developed polycystic ovary syndrome, which led to the discovery of endometriosis–a chronic condition that causes improper shedding and scarring on the uterus.

My female-related conditions forced me to learn more about hormones, my body, and listening to what does and does not feel right. I know this lesson is one that not a lot of people my age have had to learn yet, and I think that contributes to some of my maturity now.

When I reached out to some of the women in my life to provide me with responses about when they felt “their age,” I figured they would each tell me a story about a time in their life they learned a lesson the hard way–like the hardest of hard ways. I never stopped to fully think about the way each of their bodies feels on a given day, nor did I consider how drastically the way mine has felt each day since high school or college.

Check out this reflection on age and body:

As the weekend sets in, I hunched up in a car’s passenger seat on my way to Savannah, Georgia, to celebrate a friend’s 25th birthday. Twenty-five! I know that my friends and I are often guilty of falling back into the mindset of 21st birthdays but, let’s be honest, nobody wants or needs that much cheap tequila anyways.

Guage how you feel today, listen to your body, and do something nice for it!

Is there a voice inside of you right now that is reflecting on how old you are and, how old you actually feel? Do you have unique experiences that you think would be beneficial to yourself or others if shared publicly on The Learning Curve?
